There are two options to get to the island, a flight from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, or even Arusha. Another budget option is to take a bus on the first day from Dar es Salaam, arrive in the small village of Nyamisati in the afternoon or evening, spend the night, and take a wooden boat with 50-70 other people around 3-5 am in the morning and you’ll arrive in Mafia island after 4 hours.
