1. Pemba Island
Pemba Island is Tanzania’s northernmost Island. Pemba Island offers a host of incredible coral-covered wall dives, beautifully coloured reefs, and enormous sea fans. Reef life is sensational around this remote Atoll.
There are a number of dive sites around Pemba Island such as Misali island Situated off of Pemba Island, adventure-seekers who first dive around Pemba can take a day trip to this beautiful, remote location. There are no accommodations on the island, however, so you will need to play accordingly and pack your own food for the day.
however; North Horn is the most popular dive site, known for its sheer number of Sharks. Shark visitors to this area include White-Tips, Silvertips, and Hammerheads. Other marine life you’ll see here includes Humphead Parrot Fish, Big Eye Trevally and Potato Cod. Visibility usually ranges from 20m to 40m.
If you’re a slightly more advanced diver looking for more exciting dive sites, the east and south sides of Pemba have the dive sites for you due to the fast currents and incredible Pelagic visitors. Mtangani is a dive site that offers great Hammerhead sightings.
2. Mnemba Atoll
Mnemba Island is a private It is located in the northeast of Zanzibar, very close to the main island. Mnemba is the best place for Diving and Snorkeling activities. We do two dives, usually in Wattabomi, Big wall, and Kichwani. The trip departs at 08:30, from your Locations in Zanzibar Island, and returns around 15:00 every day.
There are several dive sites dotted around Mnemba Island, but these 3 were highlighted as favourites by several divers because is one of best Zanzibar dive sites
3. Mafia Island
Mafia Island may be small and secluded, but it has some of the best diving in Tanzania and East Africa. Here, you can swim with gentle whale sharks while exploring unique coral reefs in the Indian Ocean’s perma-warm waters. There is also a chance of spotting enormous Manta Rays while diving around Mafia Island.
Don’t worry! Whale sharks only eat plankton, not people.

4.Nungwi Beach

Home to incredibly colored marine life, this is not a dive site to missed when traveling to Tanzania.

10. Refuge Coral Reef
Scientists from the WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) recently discovered an unspoiled coral reef in a cross boundary marine protected area between Tanzania and Kenya, which can be accessed from the north of Tanzania. This spot is perfect for diving as long as visitors remain mindful of the need for protecting coral sanctuaries, and ensuring that they are not harmed in any way.
